Conversion Factors
Models with a handheld UV Meter display UV radiation in μmol m-2 s-1.
Ultraviolet Sensors can connect to a datalogger or voltmeter. The sensor uses a photodiode to yield a mV output. This output is multiplied by a conversion factor to yield UV radiation in units of in μmol m-2 s-1. The calibration factor is approximately 6.5 (0.15 mV per μmol m-2 s-1), but is sensor specific.
Radiation can be expressed in units of photon flux (μmol m-2 s-1) or energy flux (W m-2). While UV Sensors and Meters are calibrated in units of photon flux, the conversion to energy flux can be performed in the following spreadsheet:
