SI Radiation Shield

Apogee infrared radiometers now come with the SI radiation shield. The shield is a white, metal casing that shields the sensor from solar radiation and enables the sensor to take more accurate readings.

This shield improves the accuracy of the measurement of surface temperature in two ways:

1. In bright sunlight the shield shades the sensor and makes the sensor body more isothermal.

2. It reduces the temperature of the sensor body by 3 to 8 C and thus keeps the sensor body temperature closer to the temperature of the target area.

For those who purchased our SI infrared radiometers in the past, the SI radiation shield is available for order and fits all 100 and 200 series SI sensors.
