Apogee line quantum sensors measure a spatial average of photosynthetically active radiation (PAR). The SQ-350 is a sensor bar with 10 detectors, one long diffuser, and is self-powered with a 0 to 250 mV output. The sensor is calibrated for use in sunlight and some broadband light sources only. The sensor housing design features an integrated bubble level and is fully potted, making the sensor water- and weatherproof. Typical applications include photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) measurement over plant canopies in outdoor environments, greenhouses, and growth chambers, and reflected or under-canopy (transmitted) PPFD measurements in the same environments. Sensor includes IP68 marine-grade stainless-steel cable connector 30 cm from head to simplify sensor removal and replacement for maintenance and recalibration.
The handheld meter is attached by a cable and displays real-time readings, records samples, and logs average intensity and daily light integral (DLI) measurements. Unlike the sensor head, the handheld meter is not waterproof.
The meter has three measurement modes: spot measurement, sample, and log mode and will record an integrated daily total in mol m-2 s-1. Sample mode will record up to 99 manual measurements and log mode will power the meter on and off to make a measurement every 30 seconds. Every 30 minutes, the meter will average the sixty 30 second measurements and record the averaged value to memory, up to 99 averages. Once full, it will overwrite the oldest measurements with new ones. A daily light integral will be recorded from the 48 averaged measurements for a day’s worth of readings and is downloadable via a USB cable and the AC-110 adapter and used with the included ApogeeAMS software.
