Recalibration and Repairs
Apogee Instruments recommends recalibrating all sensors every two years.
You may wish to wait longer between recalibration cycles depending on your particular requirements and sensors. To determine if recalibration is necessary for your pyranometers or quantum sensors, utilize our ClearSky Calculator tool or download the App for iOS or Android. The ClearSky Calculator indicates what your outdoor readings should be as a reference for comparison.
In addition to our own sensors, Apogee can calibrate several thermopile pyranometers from other companies. For information on Apogee's Class A, Class B, and Class C thermopile pyranometer calibration services, please visit thermopile pyranometer calibration services.
To send your sensor in for recalibration or repair, please fill out the RMA Form or email technical support with your request. Please include the model and serial number(s)* with a brief description of your request. For broken sensors, describe the malfunction.
*Model and serial numbers for Apogee sensors are often found on a white label on the sensor cable, on a small sticker on the bottom of the sensor, on the backside of meters, and the bottom or backside of spectroradiometers.
Prepare to send all RMA sensors and meters back in their original, unmodified condition:
- Clean the sensor’s exterior and cord.
- Do not modify the sensors or wires, including splicing, cutting wire leads, etc.
- If a connector has been attached to the cable end, please include the mating connector – otherwise the sensor connector will be removed in order to complete the repair/recalibration.
Failure to do this may result in an additional service/repair fee prior to calibration. For questions, contact Technical Support.
Apogee's technical support team issue you an RMA number. Then, ship your sensor(s) to:
Apogee Instruments

Please do not send any products back to Apogee Instruments until you have received a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number from our tech support department.
